Mario's
pecorino pizzas
Located in St Paul, Mario's has been serving up Sicilian pan style pizzas for about two years. Dough is freshly made in-house everyday, and you can find a mix of specialty pizzas in either white or red sauce. We headed to St Paul to experience Mario's dine in experience, and here are our thoughts
Supreme
Toppings: red sauce, pepperoni, sausage, onion, poblano pepper, oyster mushroom, jalapeno, oregano, pecorino, parmesan, mozzarella
Highlights: great presentation, good texture and taste
Lowlights: excessively bready which was unlike the other pizzas we had
Artichoke
Toppings: garlic cream sauce, piquillo pepper, feta, pecorino, parmesan, fresh tomato, Sicilian oregano, kalamata olive
Highlights: excellent combination of flavors, very fresh aroma
Lowlights: artichokes are a turn off for some, but blended well enough that it doesn't ruin the pizza for the anti-artichoke people
Salami and Pepper
Toppings: Garlic cream sauce, shredded mozzarella, Mama Lil's sweet and vinegary peppers, pepperoncini, red onion, fresh oregano, genoa salami slices, pecorino
Highlights: great presentation and texture
Lowlights: controversial flavor profile so it's not for everyone
Hot Honey and Pepperoni
Toppings: Red Sauce and Mozzarella, Pepperoni, Jalapeno, House Made Hot Honey, Chili flake. Red Sauce and Mozzarella. Finished with. Olive Oil, Pecorino/Parmesan Cheese, Sea Salt, and Hot Honey
Highlights: good presentation
Lowlights: overly wet, hot honey mix is just okay
